According to statistics released by the Zhejiang Provincial Economic and Management Committee's Pharmaceutical and Petrochemical Industry Management Office, from January to May, the province's petrochemical enterprises above designated size realized total main business income of 345.53 billion yuan, an increase of only 0.46% over the same period of the previous year; total profits and taxes realized 27.4 billion yuan, a decrease of 33.8%; total profit of 12.75 billion yuan, a decrease of 44.9%.
Zhou Tufa, director of the provincial medical and chemical industry management office, pointed out that compared with other industries and other provinces, the pressure faced by the Zhejiang petrochemical industry this year is particularly prominent. Zhou Tufa believes that such an operating situation is closely related to the industrial structure of the Zhejiang petrochemical industry. As far as the whole country is concerned, the industries with significant reduction in profits this year mainly include crude oil processing, basic chemical raw materials, synthetic materials, and synthetic fiber units. These sub-sectors account for a relatively high proportion in the Zhejiang petrochemical industry. On the other hand, Zhejiang's more prominent factor constraint contradictions with respect to other provinces have increasingly become the bottleneck of the Zhejiang petrochemical industry's urgent need for breakthroughs.
Representatives of giants such as Juhua Group, Sinopec Zhenhai Refinery, Hangzhou Zhongce Rubber, Zhejiang Xinan Chemicals, and Zhejiang Longsheng Group made reports and analyses on the production and operation status and trends of their respective companies and industries. From the perspective of the company's reflection, whether it is fluorine chemicals, organic silicon, dyes, or petroleum processing, tires, or pesticides, under the current background of weak domestic demand and weak external demand, all face heavy market pressure. Moreover, companies believe that this trend is difficult to change in the short term.
Taking the silicone market as an example, the organic silicon utilization rate in the first half of the year was about 33%. According to the tracking statistics of Xinan Chemical, the domestic organic silicon monomer production in the first half of the year decreased by 30%, which was the largest drop in history. For the second half of the year, Xinan Chemical believes that it will show a weak and steady state, and it is difficult to see a big change.
Faced with the unfavorable situation, leading companies have called for the government to further introduce more substantive and favorable policies and measures to help enterprises tide over difficulties.
Wang Wei, chairman of Xinan Chemical, pointed out that under the current situation in which the real economy is generally difficult to operate, governments at all levels should provide more understanding and support for the development of enterprises. The development of the petrochemical industry in Shandong and Jiangsu was far ahead of Zhejiang. Some outstanding petrochemical companies in Zhejiang fled Shandong and Jiangsu one after another. They are inseparable from the local government’s high attention and strong support for the petrochemical industry.
The representative of Zhejiang Longsheng Group stated that the current phenomenon of blind investment and duplicate construction in the domestic dye industry is very serious. It has caused serious damage to the orderly competition in the market. The industry expects industry authorities and industry associations to coordinate industrial development, plan industrial layout and regulations. Sinopec Zhenhai Refining & Chemical Company representatives pointed out that government departments should pay close attention to the situation of the capital chain of the petrochemical industry, take effective measures to ensure the normal operation of the company's capital chain, and help companies tide over difficulties.
Zhou Tufa expressed his approval for the requirements put forward by the companies at the meeting, and stated that they will form a comprehensive economic operation analysis report and policy recommendations for the current situation facing the petrochemical industry and report them to the provincial government’s main leaders.
