ZF plans to acquire home appliance company to produce transmission

German automotive parts supplier ZF company spokesman Andreas stated on July 5, 2011 that the company plans to acquire a dishwasher factory from home appliance manufacturer Whirlpool Corp. And the factory will be transformed to train its workers to produce gearboxes at the factory.

Andreas said that by January 2012, the company will train 240 of the company's 280 employees to increase the capacity of its automotive transmission systems, while the remaining workers will retire. He said, "The training of the factory workers may last for several weeks. After the training, the factory will start production."

ZF said that the transaction is of crucial importance to the "great expansion demand" of the booming automotive industry. At present, the company has not disclosed the details of the transaction.
