StarMicronics uses piezoelectric element micropumps to come out

StarMicronics has developed two new models of diaphragm micropumps that use piezoelectric components. Sample shipments are scheduled to begin in the second half of July 2006. The newly developed micropump is "SDMP302" with a maximum flow rate of 2 mL/min and "SDMPP306" with a maximum flow rate of 7 mL/min. This is equivalent to the subsequent models of "SDMP301" and "SDMP305" published in 2005. It is suitable for fuel supply pumps for small fuel cells and liquid feed pumps for analytical instruments.

The micropump using a piezoelectric element is characterized in that power consumption, noise, and electromagnetic interference are less due to the absence of the motor and the rotating shaft (see the report of this site). The new model of the micro pump has been redesigned with an internal structure, and the diaphragm and valve sections have been modified to increase flow, self-priming and liquid delivery capabilities when air bubbles are trapped. The method of installing the micropump has also been changed from screw fixing to bonding. Thereby, the horizontal width at the time of mounting is reduced by 10.8 mm.

The company has also developed a USB controller "MPU-200" that controls the micropump from a PC with a pre-installed Windows system. In addition to dedicated application software, the company is equipped with "EXCELVBA" and the measurement and control application development software "NILabVIEW", which can be used to build a system that combines a micro pump with a PC, a measuring instrument and an analytical instrument.
