Narrowband Internet of Things (NB-IoT) will define the machine era!

According to Cyril Deschanel, Head of Nordic Networks at Vodafone IoT, Vodatar is highly experienced in the NB-IoT standard as the world telecom industry focuses on the 5G.

Mr. Deschanel is in charge of the development of the Vodafone IoT in the UK, France, the Netherlands, Belgium, Ireland, Sweden, Norway, Finland and Denmark and is working to transform the Internet of Things from an industrial phenomenon into a consumer and residential future.

NB-IoT will be the enabler of the next wave of wireless technology waves that will outweigh the volatility we have seen with cellular technology, which will define the era of machines!

- Cyril Deschanel (Vodafone)

Mr. Deschanel joined Vodafone in 2011 as Head of M2M Europe for Vodafone. Prior to this, he had curated the global automotive M2M business for Sierra Wireless.

Under Mr. Deschanel's leadership last year at Cork (an Irish city), Vodafone and EMC co-invested EUR 2 million for the new INFINITE Industrial Internet of Things test site. This will help companies, from start-ups to global players, design future applications and services in industries such as healthcare, transportation and financial services.

"Since Vodafone created the IoT sector, we have always believed that the Internet of Things is a tremendous opportunity that has enjoyed rapid growth for seven consecutive years."

Cork's investment is only a small part of the Vodafone ecosystem. Cisco estimates that there will be a large number of connected machines for sensors, smart homes, smart factories, smart buildings, smart cars and even smart islands in IoT World, which will increase to 50 billion by 2020 and 2030.

According to the GSMA, there are now 7.7 billion connections worldwide, including some 241 million M2M devices. Vodafone's global network has 38 million IoT / M2M connectivity devices.

"New verticals are emerging, previously just tools and manufacturing, but for now you will see cars, retails and, of course, new opportunities for smart families," says Mr. Deschanel.

Consolidation of consumer and industrial networks

Convergence of the consumer and industrial internets

Mr. Deschanel explained that the key to understanding the world of the Internet of Things is to recognize that the most problematic issues are the details and how to collect the data in real time. This way of thinking goes beyond past direct input analysis, predictive maintenance, and more.
