Cross-Strait Postal Courier (Express) Service Opened

Taiwan’s Chunghwa Post Company announced on the 17th that it will launch new services for express delivery (fast) on both sides of the Taiwan Strait to meet the growing needs of the cross-strait postal market.

After cross-strait liberalization of the “three links”, sightseeing tourism and the signing of the ECFA, the demand for bio-products and business objects from the public and corporate postal workers has become increasingly intensive. China Post and China Post Group’s courier companies have jointly launched new express service. The 1,323 post offices on the island will accept mail from the public immediately. They will be distributed on the mainland and divided into six major sub-regions, which are set to be delivered within 3 to 10 days. It is estimated that each express mail can be up to 400 yuan (New Taiwan dollar, the same below). In particular, the mainland coastal areas where the courier Taiwanese companies are concentrated have the most price cuts.

According to statistics from Chunghwa Post, there are currently about 25,000 pieces of express mail on both sides of the Taiwan Strait.

Li Yafei, president of the Cross-Strait Postal Exchange Association who came to participate in the launching ceremony, said in his speech that this is an important measure since the signing of the cross-strait postal agreement. In recent years, cooperation between the two sides of the strait has continuously expanded, and postal services have developed rapidly. By the end of 2011, the total number of mail letters on both sides of the strait was about 1,500 tons, an average annual increase of 10%, and the total amount of parcels on both sides was close to 2,000 tons, an annual increase of 12%. The speed of cross-strait express mail service is nearly 1800 tons, an increase of 20% year-on-year.
