Texas Instruments (TI) has announced the availability of four low-cost TMS320F280xx digital signal controllers in volume. The TMS320F28015, TMS320F28016, TMS320F2801-60 and TMS320F2802-60 offer 60MHz ultra-high performance for digital power conversion, motor control and advanced sensing.
In addition, considering that many designers are upgrading their current microcontroller-based (MCU)-based designs, the 11 controllers in the TI F280xx family are compatible with both software and pin-to-pin. As a result, these devices not only have 32-bit DSP performance, but also implement peripheral integration similar to MCUs, making them easy to use.
High-Performance, Complete System Integration and Low-Cost Solution All F280x-based devices offer a 32-bit wide data path for higher performance, while a mixed 16/32-bit instruction set increases code density. On-chip 12-bit analog-to-digital converter (ADC), quadrature coded pulse (QEP) interface, timer capture comparison function, and 10 independent pulse width modulation (PWM) output channels for complete system integration control . The communication interface includes CAN, I 2 C, UART, and SPI ports, depending on the specific device. The TMS320F28016 device is the lowest cost digital signal controller with integrated CAN communication interface. CAN can be used in automotive networks for a long time. It is an ideal choice for industrial applications. It not only avoids high noise, but also provides error detection and processing functions for highly reliable system communication.
All four new F280x controllers use TI's patent-pending 150 picosecond (ps) resolution PWM technology, and high-resolution PWM (HRPWM) achieves 16-bit accuracy in a 100KHz control loop, or at 1.5MHz Achieve 12-bit accuracy to provide higher power output accuracy, high power density, and smaller magnetic components, making it easier to achieve a smaller, more thermally cooled power supply design. These advantages are also critical for applications such as AC/DC rectifiers that require high tolerance, faster transient response, and lower ripple amplitude.
For motor control applications such as home appliances and automobiles, designers can not only reduce overall system cost by integrating and reducing device costs, but they can also take advantage of the performance advantages of 32-bit technology to achieve advanced control technology. The vector control without position sensor has higher requirements on the processor, which can meet the developer's smaller size and lower cost requirements for the system motor and power electronics.
The TMS320F28x controller platform provides TI customers with a low-cost solution to promote power line communication (PLC) technology to new applications such as network industry, utility, and commercial control in industrial environments. Monitoring applications, as well as other demanding environments such as metering equipment and lighting control.
Michael Propp, president and founder of Adaptive Networks, stated: "The PowerConnect portfolio of F28x controller families not only provides customers with greater flexibility, but also integrates customer applications with Adaptive Network's field-tested PLC technology. Reliable network communication is achieved with up to 50 km of power lines. The F28x devices enable a range of new control, monitoring and metering applications at an appropriate price with control-optimized signal processing performance and system-level integration."
All four controllers are available in a 100-pin LQFP package and are compliant with the AEC Q100 automotive standard and are now in volume production. Depending on the model, the unit price per thousand is from $3.25 to $4.75.
