Nexteer launches new intelligent steering technology to enhance the strength of autonomous driving products

Nexteer's on-demand steering system delivers safer, more intuitive switching between different driving modes, and Nexteer's silent steering wheel system delivers an unprecedented safe driving experience

A free-spirited leader, Nexteer Automotive Systems, the world's leading supplier of steering and powertrain systems, today unveiled a new intelligent steering technology that further enhances the product range of autonomous driving. At the 2017 North American International Auto Show just kicked off
(NAIAS), Nexteer has released two new intelligent steering technologies: Nexteer on-demand steering system
(Nexteer Steering on Demand System) and Nexteer Quiet Wheel System (Nexteer Quiet Wheel
Steering). As the level of automation in passenger cars continues to increase, these two innovations help to further enhance driving safety and improve the driver experience.

For vehicles that support the American Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) Class 3, Class 4, and Class 5 autonomous driving, Nexteer's on-demand steering system enables safer, more intuitive switching between driver's human control and automatic driving control. In addition, the system allows the driver to customize multiple driving modes, including sports mode, comfort mode and manual control mode.

The Nexteer Steering Steering Wheel System corrects the interference caused by the steering wheel's chattering and returning during automatic steering, which significantly reduces operating fatigue and ensures safe and smooth driving. During the automatic driving process, the steering wheel will remain stationary, eliminating potential hazards during the rapid rotation of the steering wheel and enhancing the driver's sense of security. In addition, vehicles equipped with a silent steering wheel system can also be equipped with a “fully retractable” steering column that automatically retracts into the instrument panel in autopilot mode, increasing available space and enhancing cockpit comfort so that the driver can engage other activities.

Iterative design approach: the perfect combination of traditional R&D and disruptive R&D

Frank, Senior Vice President, Chief Technology Officer and Chief Strategy Officer, Nexteer Automotive Systems Global Engineering
Lubischer said: “The mobile travel industry is experiencing rapid innovation. At Nexteer, we are not only constantly innovating in product development, but also continuously innovating in research and development methods. Traditional automotive R&D is usually sequential and linear, from an idea to Mass production usually takes several years, and disruptive R&D methods enable simultaneous prototyping and user testing to shorten development cycles. Nexteer combines two development methods with iterative rapid prototyping and design This allows us to quickly advance product development, prototyping and subsequent improvements to optimize the entire process from product conception to mass production."

According to Lubischer, the successful launch of the on-demand steering system and the silent steering wheel system benefited from Nexteer's independent research and development capabilities. He said: "Nexteer's new intelligent steering technology is designed to make the autonomous driving experience safer and more intuitive, and let the advanced mobile mode of autonomous driving give the driver a better experience."

Both technologies use steer-steer-steering (steer-by-wire)
technology. The steer-by-wire technology eliminates the need for a mechanical connection between the wheel and the steering wheel. Nexteer fine-tunes and sets the system through technical advantages and extensive experience to achieve superior steering and responsiveness, and through systems for sensors and mechanical technology. Integration provides more reliable system performance.

Tube Cutting Machine

Tube cutting machines are used for cutting long metal stock or scrap, generally where accuracy is not an important consideration, and the size or shape of the material makes other cutting or shearing options (such as a cutting torch) impractical. Alligator shears are often used in conjunction with large metal shredders in the metal recycling industry, to [clean" or prepare scrap for shredding by removing unwanted fittings and other parts the Shredder will not accept.
