Jiangsu and Zhejiang Co-built Central Taihu Lake Scenic Road with Slow Road

Voice of China’s “Yangguang News” reported that the Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces along the Taihu Lake will jointly build scenic roads around the Taihu Lake and focus on the introduction of a slow-moving bicycle system. The site of the initiation ceremony was located in the town of Qidu, at the junction of Zhejiang and Jiangsu Provinces. The deputy governor of the provinces of Jiangsu and Zhejiang, the relevant leaders of the Ministry of State Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, and planning experts and people along the route attended the meeting. There are about 500 people.

It is understood that the scenic road around Taihu Lake will be trunk roads that are suitable for bicycle riding and pedestrian walking. The total length is about 310 kilometers, including about 250 kilometers in the Jiangsu section and about 60 kilometers in the Zhejiang section. This is the first cross-provincial regional scenic road in the country. For this purpose, the two provinces have established a coordination mechanism and achieved the unification of planning, standards, construction, and management. The project is expected to be completed by the end of the “Twelfth Five-Year Plan” period.

There are several characteristics of the owner of the Taihu Lake scenic road. The first is in the planning concept. It borrows advanced foreign experience and builds a slow-moving transportation system. A dedicated bicycle lane was designed to provide cyclists with wireless internet, free direct drinking water, bicycle rental repairs, rest, dining, and emergency medical services. After the project is completed, it will bid for a large-scale bicycle race like "Qinghai Lake International Road Cycling Competition".

In terms of environmental protection, after the outbreak of the Taihu Lake water crisis in 2007, the effect of iron wrist pollution control and scientific governance was too obvious. Therefore, the stability and improvement of Taihu Lake's ecological environment is an important condition for the construction of Taihu Lake Scenic Road. Protecting the Taihu Lake ecology remains its top priority. Therefore, in the planning, it is important to integrate the former Binhu Road network instead of completely building a new road. At the same time, commercial real estate development in the region will be strictly prohibited to minimize the impact on the ecology and the occupation of farmland.

In terms of economy, Scenic Road has planned a total of 21 lines and tie lines of 300 kilometers in addition to the Ring Lake Line, which has reserved a vast space for rural economic development along the line and increasing farmers' income. After the completion of the project, He Quan, vice governor of Jiangsu Province, said that Taihu Lake Scenic Road will promote the integration and utilization of tourism resources in Taihu Lake, improve the regional ecological environment, improve the quality of life of residents along the lake, and further promote the adjustment of the industrial structure of the entire Taihu Lake region.
