According to foreign media reports, Japanese car manufacturer Subaru said that on June 5, it discovered new product data fraud, expanding the affected vehicles from the previously reported 903 vehicles to 1,551 vehicles, and led to the restructuring of the company's senior management.

In order to clarify its operational responsibilities, Subaru president Ji Yongtai will resign from the position of president and CEO of the company to assume responsibility for the counterfeit scandal. Afterwards, Ji Yongtai will become the unrepresented chairman of the board and concentrate on responding to irregularities. The future president, Nakamura Tomi, will become the company’s new chief executive officer. The above appointment will take effect on June 22.

Subaru staff said that in measuring the fuel economy of vehicles and other parameters, Subaru ignored the deviation of vehicle speed and air humidity from the existing standards. Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism Keiichi Ishii said that after conducting a four-month investigation of Subaru, new cases were continuously discovered, which made it “suspicious” of Subaru’s attitude.

At the press conference in Tokyo, Yoshihiro Yoshihiro stated that "I sincerely apologize for more troubles for the customers." As for whether the company has other violations, Ji Yongtai's statement does not confirm that there is no other situation. In a statement on June 5, Subaru said, “We have not conducted a comprehensive investigation of specific behaviors, including reasons, backgrounds, and motives for such behavior. In view of the urgency of the matter, thorough investigations will be conducted by external experts.”

In a report handed over to the government in April this year, Subaru admitted that the new car mileage and emissions data of a domestic factory had been tampered with. Such violations may begin around 2002. In mid-May of this year, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism investigated the data fraud incidents, and new violations were discovered during the survey.
